October 1, 2005 October 2, 2005Here’s another Stitch n Bitch Nation pattern that I liked. I picked up the ribbon yarn on eBay, and thought I was getting a different color. When it arrived, I realized that it would be a perfect scarf for my mother in Florida – the pinks and aquas remind me of Florida sunset on the gulf. Hokey, I know, but there you go. I love the pattern because the drop stitch rows show off the ribbon. In the right light, it really shimmers.

This was the first time I had ever used ribbon for knitting, and it took some getting used to. You can’t really tell from the pictures, but the ribbon is made up of four black (?) vertical threads, and filled with very fine pink and aqua threads attached horizontally. It took some practice to get my needle point to slide through the stitches, and not through the ribbon itself. Also, if I had any rough spots on my fingernails they would catch in the fine yarn.

The result was worth it, though – I think my mother is going to love this. The best part is that it’s not heavy at all, so she can wear it on warm Florida days and nights.
