Sweeter Lemon

Some people make lemonade – I'd prefer a sweeter lemon

I’m an apartment dweller. A renter. I grew up in a house, but haven’t lived in one since I moved out after college.

As I get older, I dream more and more about the kind of house I’d like. I watch House Hunters on HGTV, and try to picture myself in the different houses in different towns across the country.

Sometimes I love the ultra-modern houses, with their hard angles and open floorplans. Then they’ll show a traditional style or a Craftsman style, and I’m equally as captivated.

Then I hear the neighbors upstairs, and remember that I’m still an apartment-dweller. For now, anyway.

Insane people that we are, Mr. Martini and I kept the finale of last season’s LOST on our DVR and finally watched it tonight.

That means we went almost eight months without spoiling it too much for ourselves (much to the consternation of our co-workers, who were not allowed to discuss it in our presence).

The best part of waiting until now to watch last season’s finale is that we only have to wait 3 days to see what happens next.
Will you be watching, too?

I love watching Project Runway – I’ve been a devoted fan since the first season. There’s something about a reality show that rewards talent and creativity that brings me back week after week.

I’ve learned something else by watching this show – I have absolutely no fashion sense whatsoever. This week, the designers had to make fashions out of Levi’s jeans. My favorite, designed by Chris, was put down by the judges as being “dated” and “Joan Cusack in Working Girl” – a role not known for it’s fashion-forwardness, with the mile-high hair and eighty pounds of green eyeshadow.

Whatever. I love this dress, wacky sort-of-fringed detail and all.

A couple of years ago, I found Janet Evanovich’s first two Stephanie Plum books in a used bookstore. They looked like fun train-reading, so I picked them up and buzzed through them in a matter of days.

Over the next few months, I worked my way up through the entire series until I hit the final “number” – I think it was To the Nines.

Now, I’m always on the lookout for the latest in the Stephanie Plum series. I just finished reading Twelve Sharp and thought I’d have to wait awhile for the next one.

But look! It’s already out!

These novels may not be “great literature” by any stretch of the imagination, but wow are they fun to read. I love the characters, I love the situations, and I know that if I met Stephanie in person we’d probably get along. I just wouldn’t ever let her borrow my car.

The latest season of The Amazing Race has come to an end, and I’m disappointed only because it won’t be on my TV every Sunday night anymore.

I absoloutely LOVED this season. The tasks were challenging, but not crazy – OK, except for the tattoos. That was a little nuts.

There were no gorge-eating challenges, and I’m so happy they’re gone. If I wanted to watch that kind of thing, I’d tune into old episodes of Fear Factor.

I also like the new “Speed Bump” and “U-Turn” options. These require teams to do extra tasks when penalized, rather than just stand around and seethe. It gives the teams more control, and if they can tear through a task quickly, they can make up some lost time.

Another great season from one of my favorite shows. This is the only “reality” show I really wish I could be on – definitely.

While I love my current old-school white iPod Nano, I can’t help drooling over this:

So little! So colorful! So cute!

I love the fact that it plays videos. Granted, the screen is too small to sit and watch a movie on, but a few clips from a video camera or even a music video would look great, even that small.

I know for certain that if they had it in orange, I’d buy one immediate.

I’m all cozied up on the couch, under a blanket with my laptop in my lap and one of the cats curled up on my legs. Mr. Martini gets up to go to the kitchen, then stops by his computer to check his e-mail. And then, of course, I realize that he’s left the remote just out of my reach. Since I’m comfortable and cozy and don’t want to move, I’m stuck watching football.

Figures.
