Sweeter Lemon

Some people make lemonade – I'd prefer a sweeter lemon

I am once again contemplating doing the Couch to 5k Running program. I’m tired of not being in shape, I miss being outdoors and I miss the excitement of entering a 5k. I think it’s time.

As I was doing a little online research, I discovered some free podcasts on iTunes that were mades specificially for the program. They’re timed, they have music that corresponds to the pace you should be keeping as you walk/jog, and they have vocal prompts to let you know when to shift paces as well.

I downloaded a bunch, and now I’m actually excited to get out there and see if they work for me. Do you think if I wear a pair of Shape Up shoes at the same time, I’ll get in shape twice as fast? Because that would be awesome.

I keep getting pieces of mail directing me to call or get online to review and compare auto insurance quotes. I usually never pay attention to them, but I think it might be time to take a look at how our current provider stacks up against the competition, and see if we could be getting a better rate somewhere. It’s been so long since I’ve had to worry about auto insurance, when we got our car I just automatically signed up with the same agency that handles our renter’s insurance. Then I figured I was just stuck with them.

But I guess it’s not the case. So that’s something to add to the “we might save money this way” list!

We’re trying hard to keep our belongings consolidated, and not bring too much extra “stuff” into our apartment. The reasons are several, including the fact that our apartment is very small and any extra item needs to find a home somewhere that won’t make us look like hoarders. The second reason is that we don’t really “need” anything, so unless something has a specific use or purpose, there’s no point bringing something into our home that I’m going to have to dust.

This has worked out well, and in the past year that we’ve lived here I don’t feel the need to rent out a storage facility or order one of those steel buildings to fill up with extra items. We could still reduce our belongings more, of course, but not adding to the clutter is helping a lot.

While I didn’t go too crazy with the eating and celebrating while on vacation this year, I can’t say that I was particulary calorie conscious in my ways. There was cake at celebrations (2 of them!) there was pizza and hamburgers and potato salad and various other goodies, including beer and champagne and wine.

While I gave myself a few days after vacation to recover and settle back into a routine, it’s becoming obvious that no one has slipped a magic diet pill that works into my morning coffee recently. It looks like it’s time to get back on track with eating right and exercising. Woo-hoo!

When we got back from vacation, our mailbox was overflowing. Since we have a locked box, we didn’t need to ask the cat sitter to check on our mail, so we ended up going through the stack all at once – a bill here, some baby announcements, a birthday card for me (thank you!), a couple of catalogs.

I’m just so happy that many companies are offering online statements and bill pay these days, or there wouldn’t have been room to fit it all in our box! Plus, it saved a lot of shredding and recycling. I’ll say it again -I love you, modern technology!

We just got back from our vacation – my family reunion in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. We had a great time, and the weather was perfect.

The last time we took a long vacation like this, we flew, but this year we drove. I can’t believe how much easier it made everything to have our own car! We could put the suitcases in the trunk, along with laundry baskets for the linens. We were able to take jaunts to local restaurants when we felt like it. It was great!

The only thing is that I managed to spill something icky in one of my suitcases (I have no idea). Looks like I’m going to have to get a new set of suitcases – maybe some Eagle Creek luggage? – in time for the next reunion. Luckily, that won’t be for another two years.

Wait. There’s nothing “luckily” about a two year wait for my next vacation! Boo!
