We got the news today that our application for the apartment was accepted. Yay! Now comes the fun part of figuring out how to pack everything, how to get rid of the stuff we don’t want, and where the to put the stuff that we have once we get there.
I think that since we’ll have more room, I’d like to get more bookshelves and take a lot of books out of storage. Normally I’d consider putting these bookshelves in the office, but we have so much office furniture that I don’t think there would be room for them.
But I think there might be room in the living room, which might give it a more “library” feel, which is kind of nice. Hmmm. I may have figured this out.
We’re apartment hunting, and we saw a place last night that we really like. Now we’re just starting that back and forth process of sending in the rental application, waiting to hear back, figuring out a time to sign a lease, etc. etc. etc.
We like almost everything about this apartment except for one thing – the wall to wall carpeting. It’s old, it’s ugly, and it’s stained a bit in places. Since we don’t have the option of pulling it out and replacing it with floor tiles or hardwood, we’re trying to think of creative solutions to make it less noticeable. Our best idea is to buy some area rugs to put in the most conspicuous places. But other than that, we’re at a loss.
I suspect, though, that once we’re moved in, and all of our furtinture is in place, we probably will get used to the carpet fairly quickly. But until then, my imagination is running wild with potential solutions!
About three weeks ago, I woke up covered in bites. I’m not sure what bit me, all I know is that there were about 24 bites on both arms and a couple on my right leg. Something got under the covers with me, I guess, and decided to feast on my yummy, yummy self.
The itching was so bad for the next two days I was almost delusional, and at one point do think that I considered contacting a reputable Bronx medical malpractice lawyer to file suit against the spider that bit me. (It had to be a spider. These bites were too big and lasted too long to be a mosquito. It’s been three weeks, and I still have red marks where the bites were. Not cool.)
This is all to say – always keep hydrocortisone cream on hand at home. This is a valuable lesson for all of us.
Or I guess I should say “Coca-Cola Cherry ZeroTM” since that’s the official name, but I think they’ll forgive me the post title since that’s awfully long and has that weird TM font that I don’t think I can code properly without the use of WYSIWYG technology. (Apparently I can’t do it even with WYSIWYG technology, as I can’t find the superscript button on Wordpress. Oh well.)
ANYWAY.
At the grocery store the other day, I realized that I can buy fridge packs of sodas since I don’t have to haul my groceries home in a backpack and up three flights of stairs like I used to in Chicago. Score! So I bought a fridge pack of Cherry Coke Zero, and I have to say it’s my go-to afternoon caffeine kick. I’m not sure why it tastes so much better than regular Diet Coke, besides the cherry flavor it’s just got some magical taste that I’m really enjoying. Maybe it’s a hidden weight loss supplements, maybe it’s just whatever sweetener their using, but I’m really digging them this week.
I got a new iPod Touch recently, and what’s nice is how I can use to surf the web while watching live TV in the living room.
On a sidenote – isn’t it funny how you can differentiate live TV vs. DVR-ed TV these days? Remember when you couldn’t fast forward through commercials? Wasn’t that like, eons ago?
Anyway, no instead of waiting impatiently for all of the Medicare supplement plan (let’s face it, I’m not their target demo) and the chamois cleaner commercials (those yelling types of ads make my ears ring) to finish airing, I listen with one ear while checking my e-mail on my laptop.
Technology. It’s crazy, isn’t it?
Every once in a while, I see a story about an entrepreneur who started their own business in their basement, and I start to daydream. I picture myself in an efficient, trendy at home space, working on my latest project and think how cool it would be to start my very own business.
Then I realize that while it would be kind of cool, that I”m really not the entrepreneurial type. I would worry to much about the day to day things, like the best place to find low cost health insurance, which would overwhelm my ability to come up with “the big ideas.” So for now, I’ll keep things status quo, and just content myself with reading about those entrepreneurial types.
My brother just got transferred to Columbia, SC, and I’m kind of excited for him. He’s spent most of his working years working outdoors on overnight shifts, and these years were spent in Boston and Ohio, so the nights were very long and very cold in the winters.
I think that the overnight shift of working in South Carolina will be fantastic after all of those snowy years. That, plus the proximity to Myrtle beach golf courses, will make this new job seem like a vacation. Well, almost.
A fly got into our apartment last night, and the cats went CRAZY. For real, we have spent actual hard earned money on actual tangible toys for the cats, but nothing amused them or kept their interest as long as that fly did. They chased it, they jumped for it, they climbed on the furniture and the tv stands and onto the kitchen counters (a big no-no in our house) until they got so tired they finally just collapsed into heaps on the floor.
I have no idea if they ever caught the fly (it was too spry for me to swat). But I didn’t see it flying around this morning, so I guess that answers that question.
I cleaned out my desk today, and lurking beneath the random business gifts and the stockpile of plastic forks was a packet of Emergen-C. Have you ever tried Emergen-C? I love this stuff, even when I’m not sick. It’s like drinking a glass of bubbly Kool-Ade, only packed with vitamins and minerals and (of course) extra Vitamin C.
I know it’s weird, but sometimes I drink this along with my lunch, in place of a soda. It’s also great in the morning when you need a little extra energy, but don’t want any (or any more) coffee.
I am going to a spa this weekend, and I am very excited, although a little nervous. This is supposed to be a relaxing visit, but I’m one of those people who has trouble relaxing. When I try to relax, my mind tends to wander toward all of the things I could be doing with my time, practical things like cleaning out closets or installing walk in tubs in the bathrooms or steam cleaning the carpets.
OK, I really don’t think about steam cleaning the carpets. But I do have to learn to relax a little more.
