My First Quilt Top – Complete!
Quilting class is going swimmingly. In fact, because of this class, I’m proud to show you my very first finished quilt top!
It’s a little wrinkly, and there are some loose threads here and there, but I’m so incredibly proud of it.
I’m most happy about the fact that I only lost 1 or 2 points in piecing the blocks together, and sewing the borders on. I’m not going to quibble about that, because I suspect I’m the only person who will notice, and I’m an easy audience.
It turns out that I had no idea how to put borders on a quilt. It was much more regimented than I imagined – calculating lengths, pinning from the center, easing out the excess fabric, etc. But as it happens, those steps mean your quilt is squared up and not listing to one side drunkenly. Knowledge is power!
I missed this week’s class, which was about making the quilt sandwich with the batting and tying your quilt. But I think I’ll be able to get the handout and catch up with everyone in time for next Monday’s class – the final one! After which I will have a 100% complete quilt, suitable for a wall-hanging!
I’m so excited, I’m going to post the photo again, just because I can.
Yay!
