Snapdragon Mittens
I’m participating in The Loopy Ewe’s “Camp Loopy” Challenge this summer. It’s been a blast so far. The second challenge called for a pair of items (mittens, gloves, socks), and the pattern had to include cables.
I’ve had the Snapdragon mitts in my queue for a long, long, LONG time, and this was just the excuse I needed to knit them up.
Pattern: Snapdragon Mitts by Ysolda Teague (Ravelry Link)
Yarn: madelinetosh tosh vintage in Hollyhock (less than 1 skein)
Started 7/15/11, Finished 7/23/11
I have made cables before on a few projects. However, I have never used cables as a lace pattern before. I had a lot of fun with these mittens, and absolutely adored how the cable sections turned out. In fact, I loved them so much, I couldn’t bring myself to make the flip top which would have covered up those awesome cables. No way! So instead, I just knit straight up and finished these like regular mittens. Perfect.
The next challenge that runs from August 15th through September 15th is a big one. You can choose any pattern you want, but you have to knit at least 800 yards of yarn. I’ve committed myself to making a Stripe Study shawl from Madelinetosh yarn in Thunderstorm and Dahlia. I’m super excited to start, but we can’t cast on until Monday. Must… resist… urge to start!

These are beautiful mittens. While you were in FL, I overheard my mom talking to Bev about how you can knit cables without a cable needle and she couldn’t believe it. To which Bev replied, “She’s an ad-vaance-d knitter. Does bea-uuuu-ti-ful pieces. Of course she can knit cables without that needle.” I had to smile – you absolutely blow their minds!
