My very first (non-doll sized) quilt is done, done, done!
That is, I not only pieced it, but basted, quilted and bound it. It is absolutely, 100% complete. Finished. A fork has been stuck in it, it is done.
I’m mighty proud of myself, too.
Pattern: Easy Bake by Cluck Cluck Sew
Fabric: Layer Cake of Sunkissed by Sweetwater for Moda
Backed with Sunkissed gray and white flowers, bound with Sunkissed yellow plaid
This is such a terrific pattern for a newbie quilter. I can’t say enough good things about it. Using a precut layer cake of 10″ x 10″ squares made everything so much easier (and faster – less cutting!). The pattern still allowed me some freedom to choose where to place fabrics for the most pleasing design. And these fabrics were so happy and sunny and fun to play with, that piecing this top was a joy.
Quilting it, however – oh boy. I machine quilted some simple straight lines across and down, and it was a challenge. I used my Brother machine, thinking the larger throat would make the process easier. However, while my Brother is a great little machine for small projects, it couldn’t really handle the machine quilting, even with a walking foot. My stitches are nowhere close to being even, and it was a struggle to get the layers through evenly and properly. I will not be showing any close ups of the finished quilting. And since this is going to be living on our couch, I don’t really care.
It’s done, and I couldn’t be happier. Yay!
