New Year, New Plans
Happy new year, everyone! I hope everyone had a safe and happy transition from 2011 to 2012.
Like most folks, I’ve made a few resolutions. While it’s been my nature in the past to go all-out the first week in January and then fail miserably at all the life change that don’t stick, this year I’m taking it easier on myself. I’m letting myself ease into changes with some structured help from people who know better than me.
In an effort to streamline and become more organized and less overwhelmed with all the stuff in our apartment, I’m following the 2012 Declutter Calendar through My Simpler Life. Each day lists just one small decluttering/organizing task. If you can do just one task each day, eventually you’ll work your way through your entire house one drawer, shelf and pile at a time. I figure there are days when the listed task won’t be relevant to me, as well as some days that the task will take more than one day to complete. But in general, I like the idea of a small daily task and not a weekend of thorough cleaning that eats up all of my free time.
In an effort to get back on the fitness bandwagon, I’m also following the Fitness Cheerleader’s 31 Days to a Healthier You challenge for January. Again, these are daily challenges that promote better health and fitness, without the pressure of forcing this couch potato to suddenly run 3 miles in a day when that would just be impossible. I need to ramp up and make healthier choices more of a habit, and I think this might really help with a series of small steps. Fingers crossed I stick it out through the month! (Thanks to the awesome Dawn for the heads up!)
I also cast on for a new project tonight. If you’re looking for a fun mystery knit-along, may I suggest Through the Loops latest mystery sock? It looks like it’s going to be lots of fun – bobbles! cables! whee!
How about you? What goals are you working on this year?

I like these. I am also taking part in a “decluttering” this year but I’m calling it The Great Purge of 2012. And we will be parting ways with several things that never should have moved to Louisville with us in the first place. But I like the monthly challenge of healthiness – if you’re able to do something for a month, you’re more likely to stay on top of it. Maybe I’ll join you.
Sounds awesome! I’m also going to try to keep up with the Decluttering calendar.
I love just how accessible Fitness Cheerleader’s challenge is – such a brilliant plan! I hope it works well for you.
Awesome idea with the decluttering calendar. Heres to a clutter free year!
