Product of the Week: Dove VisibleCare Softening Creme Body Wash

July 18, 2012By 3 Comments

I admit that I don’t give as much thought to my skin as I should. Granted, I try to wear sunscreen on my face in the summer. And in the winter, I’m constantly rubbing lotion on my shins which seem to dry out and itch the second we turn on our heater. But other than basic health and comfort levels, I don’t really worry too much about my skin.

So when BlogHer and Dove sent me a bottle of (let me get the trademarks correct) the NEW Dove® VisibleCare™ Softening Crème Body Wash to try, I didn’t really think it would really do all that much. I mean, I’ve used body washes before, and never saw much of a difference between them and bar soap. But I do typically like Dove products, so I figured it was worth a shot.

Now, I know this is going to sound contrived and silly, but I take back what I said about there being no difference between bar soap and body wash. I love this stuff. First of all, it has a great fragrance. I actually looked it up, it’s “a white floral gourmand” fragrance. I have no idea what “gourmand” is, but it smells really nice. The product itself is incredibly thick and creamy, and lathers really, really well, and I used it to shave my legs which worked like a dream.

But then, after I used it, I actually did notice a difference in my skin. No joke – at work that morning, I actually ran my hand over my forearm and thought, “Wow, my skin really does feel softer.” I wish I was kidding, because that sounds really goofy, but it’s true. I’ve used it for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve also noticed that my elbows and knees are looking softer and less ashy – definitely a plus in this heat wave we’ve had, since I’m wearing shorts and tanks more than usual.

I’ve already suggested that Mr. Martini start using it, since his skin has been drier than normal recently (new exercise regimen = more showers + harsh “man” soap = dry skin). I’m also thinking of trying the Renewing version (aka: the Dove® VisibleCare™ Renewing Crème Body Wash) once this bottle runs out. But that might be awhile – this is a huge bottle, and just a tiny amount is plenty of lather for a whole shower.

Phew! That’s a lot of words about a Body Wash, but I really did like it. I definitely don’t miss my bar soap, that’s for sure!

What about you? Do you use body wash or bar soap?

I use the oil cleansing method, mainly on my face but also on my body sometimes. I admit, I’m curious about a body wash that actually works!
