I can’t believe it’s the tail end of August already! This summer has gone by so quickly. It’s already been a few weeks since I went on vacation to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina for a family reunion. I had such a good time. I once again volunteered to be the official portrait photographer, and I’ve spent the past few days going over all of the pictures. It’s like reliving the whole week.
Here I am on the far left with my five siblings and mom & dad. I’m cracking up at how pale I am compared to everyone else. No wonder my doctor once diagnosed me with a Vitamin D deficiency! I need to get outside more.
The only problem with being the official photographer is the work I put into it, which means by the time it’s my turn to get in a shot I’m something of a hot, sweaty mess. What can I say, I’m vain. Which is why a few days after the photoshoot, when everyone was getting dressed up for my niece’s beach wedding, I requested a quick shot of me with my parents. Aren’t we glamorous? (Humor me, people):
So. Much. Wind. But look! I’m wearing make up! And earrings! It was a banner day, folks.
Besides picture-taking, there was a lot of swimming in the pool and at the beach. There was good food and good talks and good company. There were balloons and cupcakes for me to celebrate my birthday. There was a boat trip to see dolphins. There was shopping at Myrtle Beach for color-changing nail polish. And for me, there was also a lot of rest and napping and sleeping in, as well as staying up late on the porch trading stories. There was laughing and dancing at my niece Stephanie’s wedding. I haven’t danced that much in years. It was a great week.
And when I got home, there was cake waiting for me.
Since Ben couldn’t go to the reunion, we were apart on my birthday. But he surprised me with birthday treats from Ghyslain, a fancy french bakery. They were amazing.
All in all, it was an awesome week. The whole time I just was so thankful for how lucky I am to have such a great family. Thanks to my sister Sally and my parents for putting it all together. We only do this once every two years, and I’m already counting down to the next reunion in 2015.
