Sweeter Lemon

Some people make lemonade – I'd prefer a sweeter lemon

I love to shop on etsy.com – it’s filled with tons of amazing handmade items, from the artistic to the practical and everything in between.

But until this week, I never really entered the forums. They’re fascinating! Today I read about different ways folks can process credit cards at craft shows. I never even thought about that before! I don’t think many of them had fancy portable devices like an epson receipt printer, but a lot of them had subscriptions to credit card processing businesses. And the part I found fascinating was that people tend to spend more money when they can use their credit cards. I always suspected that to be true, but to see it proven by someone’s experience was gratifying.

Anyway – Etsy! Great for shopping and learning. Check it out.

I’m very excited, because I signed up for a jewelry making class at a local craft store. The jewelry isn’t anything fancy – just glass beads, not certified diamonds or anything. But I’m excited to learn how to make my own necklaces and bracelets and earrings. I don’t usually wear a lot of jewelry, but maybe I’ll wear more if I make it myself. I mean, when I make it myself, I can make exactly what I want to make.

I can’t wait! This is going to be fun.

I need to get my knitting fingers into shape, because not one but TWO of the women I work with are expecting babies this fall! I have to wait to hear if the moms will be sending baby boy or baby girl announcementsbefore I start knitting, so I know exactly what to knit. Then again, if I knit something in, I don’t know, green or cream, then that would work for either.

I love knitting for babies! I can’t wait to get started.

We had a new baby at the office recently – or I should say, a co-worker of mine had a baby recently. I had a ton of fun knitting a wee little sweater for the new baby, since I could use bright, cute colors that I normally wouldn’t use. Because let’s face it, my colors are not “rainbow striped” by any means.

It was fun to pass along the wee little sweater, and give a gift that was so well appreciated. I know that it’s more traditional to hand out champagne or Swisher Sweets when a new baby arrives, but a wee little sweater was just so much cuter.

I have a crafty side to my personality, but I’m definitely not wildly artistic when it comes to my crafts. I tend to follow patterns and use basic colors for fairly simple finished objects. Which is why I’m always so amazed when I see people undertake HUGE projects, like crocheting the great Coral Reef, or quilting custom car covers, or this one I saw the other day – knitting the entire first level of Super Mario Brothers into a scarf.

I think I’ll continue to watch from afar in amazement, knowing that I’ll probably never have it in me to even think up something that wild, let alone have the skill or patience to actually do it. Go, mega-crafters, go!
