I love working with other women, because we can take a few moments throughout the day to discuss things like the best acne treatments, or our favorite TV shows, or the best place to find cute shoes on sale.
In fact, one woman at work recommended knee socks in the winter, which I thought was a little strange. But worn under jeans, they kept my legs so warm during some cold snaps we’ve had this winter. I never would have considered them at all (figuring they wouldn’t be available in adult sizes), but they were a great investment! Thanks, work ladies!
My favorite shoes when I lived in Chicago were my Dansko womens shoes, and more specifically, the “Professional” style. I lived in these shoes during the fall, winter and spring, only giving them up when summer rolled around and I could wear my Dansko sandals or Reef flip-flops.
What I loved most about these shoes were how they were designed for walking – everything from the way your heels moved within the shoe to the contour of the soles and footbeds made them the most comfortable walking shoes I ever owned. They may have felt heavy if you picked them up in your hand, but when I was wearing them, they didn’t feel heavy at all. In fact, when I would wear them, I never really noticed them – I just walked my many miles without thinking of my feet. And that was bliss.
I lost them in the move, and I really, really miss them. We’re right in the middle of our Louisville summer, so I don’t need any right now. But this fall? I bet I’ll be getting a new pair.
Well, I’ve had my Old Navy flip flops for over a week now, and I can say that I like them. I feared the plastic would blister my feet, but so far that hasn’t happened.
Interestingly enough, I discovered that the plastic soles on two of the pairs (the pink and red) are much softer and cushier than the others. This makes them way more comfortable, on a softness scale. The other 5 pairs (I still haven’t worn the yellow ones!) are comfortable, but a little more sturdy than the 2 softer pairs.
I can definitely see why they’re so popular. They’re cheap, they have fun colors, and if you lose one on the beach or just wear them out, you don’t feel heartbroken since they weren’t a huge investment. Granted, they offer absolutely no arch support, so I wouldn’t recommend wearing them for long distance walks on your Vegas vacations or even just long hikes to the bus, but for general running around, I have to give them a thumbs up.
I am now the proud owner of 8 pairs of Old Navy flip flops. I have no idea when I’ll wear them all, or if I’ll even want to, but they only cost $1.65 each, so it seems silly to return just a few pairs of them.
As long as they’re comfortable, I’m sure I’ll be able to wear them throughout the summer. It’s not like we’re invited to fancy dress parties where a tuxedo and ball gown are required. I can even wear them to work without a second glance. It just seems crazy to have EIGHT pairs of them at my disposal.
I was just a sucker for the multi-colored plastic cheapness of them. Let’s hope they don’t hurt my feet!
Remember a few years ago, there was the chain mail going around the internet about putting an ICE contact on your cellphone, in case you were ever in an accident and didn’t have your ID on you?
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency, by the way.
I was thinking about that on my walk this morning. I usually don’t bring my ID, or my phone, I don’t wear any medical id tags, I really had nothing on me that, if I got hit by a car, could identify me.
I’m thinking it might not be a bad idea to get one of those name and address bracelets I’ve seen in the running magazines, which I always figured were more for long-distance or trail runners. But even a walker like me, just a block from home, needs to take precautions, right?
I went shopping today to find a silk blouse to wear to an upcoming event. I say “silk blouse” even though it didn’t have to be silk. Just something vaguely fancy-looking, that fit me and wasn’t too tight or too loose, that was a pretty color that would go with a black skirt.
I found sleeveless blouses (no), I found blouses that had bands on the short sleeves, which cut off my circulation (no, again), I found blouses in the “brown” family that wouldn’t match my skirt (right out).
I’ve given up. I’m thinking of just hitting my closet for something kind of outdated and worn, and then buying something pretty to wear with it to be a distraction: maybe one of those Guess watches or some sparkly earrings. Because I’m done with blouse shopping.
