Sweeter Lemon

Some people make lemonade – I'd prefer a sweeter lemon

OK, last post for now about our diet. Someone online via Twitter asked me if I ever buy diet pills when I’m trying to lose weight. I don’t actually, because I’m on a budget. Walking and jogging is free, as long as you can find a decent pair of sneakers.

Another thing I’m trying to do at home (for free!) are just basic calisthenics – jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups, those sorts of things. If I can do them in a circuit, I can get a pretty good workout.

But still, I can’t wait until I can start my walks again! They’ll always be my favorite free exercise.

I think I mentioned yesterday that my husband and I are trying to watch what we eat. We’re also trying to get more exercise, which has been hard this winter. It was too cold to go outside and walk (my preferred exercise) and we don’t own any indoor fitness equipment.

But the days are starting to get longer, which means that it may actually start getting warmer, soon, too. I can’t wait. I have a goal to run a 5k race this year, so I have to get going in order to be in shape enough to do that. Come on, spring!

You know that old Garfield cartoon, where he says, “I’m not overweight, I’m undertall”? That’s how I’m feeling today. Which of course has my brain zinging in various directions. Wouldn’t it be amazing if if someone could figure out how to adjust hgh supplements (human growth hormone supplements, that is) to help people stretch themselves vertically to balance off any extra weight they may be carrying? That way, their BMI would be more in line (since the body mass index is focused on height and weight only).

Granted, after the lunch I ate today, I might have to be stretched an extra 3 feet to compensate. But hey, at least I could see the screen no matter where I sat in the movie theater, right?

It’s that time of year again! As in, the end of the year, and the start of a new one. This time last year, I was thinking about losing weight and researching different diet pills like phentermine and seeing how much a gym membership would cost.

This year, I’m going to give myself a break. I feel a little better about my looks (or at least, a little more comfortable in my own skin) so I’m not going to beat myself up over a few extra pounds. Instead, I’m going to focus on other goals, and let the idea of losing weight just work itself out as part of the overall picture. We’ll see how this works!

While some folks are always looking for the best acne treatments, I’m always looking for the best moisturizers. Every year at this time, I get horrible patches of dry skin on the inside corners of my eyes, between my lids and my eyebrows.

Luckily, my eyes are deep set, so it’s not that noticeable. But it’s frustrating, and the skin is so sensitive and I have to be careful about what I put so close to my eyes.

I suppose we all have our little imperfections we’re trying to fix, don’t we?

Once again, it’s getting close to the holidays, and to avoid going overboard on the sweets and the goodies and all the rest of it. I’ve been perusing the net for weight loss tips and how to avoid temptation at the holidays and low-cal holiday recipes.

But really? I think the most important thing I can do is get more exercise. That way I can eat as more pie and cookies without the guilt. Brilliant!

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it already, but I’ll be moving to a new apartment soon. I’m looking forward to moving to a new place with more space and more windows and better light. Right now it’s the planning part, where we’re getting utilities figured out and getting our change of address forms figured out.

The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the actual packing and hauling of, well, everything. I’m trying to think of the entire process as an alternative to finding the best diet pill – maybe the calorie output will be enough to help me lose a few pounds. We’ll see!

Oh my gosh, have you seen this cute link yet? For the New (Media) Workout? It is cracking me up! I love the idea of using the inevitable clicks over to Twitter and Flickr as an excuse to do some arm circles and  jumping jacks.

I admit that I haven’t so far turned my social media clicks as fat burners, but this is just too funny to think about.  And just think, if you’re reading this in Google Reader, now is the time you should be doing your 25 situps. Get cracking!

(Hee!)

About three weeks ago, I woke up covered in bites. I’m not sure what bit me, all I know is that there were about 24 bites on both arms and a couple on my right leg. Something got under the covers with me, I guess, and decided to feast on my yummy, yummy self.

The itching was so bad for the next two days I was almost delusional, and at one point do think that I considered contacting a reputable Bronx medical malpractice lawyer to file suit against the spider that bit me. (It had to be a spider. These bites were too big and lasted too long to be a mosquito. It’s been three weeks, and I still have red marks where the bites were. Not cool.)

This is all to say – always keep hydrocortisone cream on hand at home. This is a valuable lesson for all of us.

I cleaned out my desk today, and lurking beneath the random business gifts and the stockpile of plastic forks was a packet of Emergen-C. Have you ever tried Emergen-C? I love this stuff, even when I’m not sick. It’s like drinking a glass of bubbly Kool-Ade, only packed with vitamins and minerals and (of course) extra Vitamin C.

I know it’s weird, but sometimes I drink this along with my lunch, in place of a soda. It’s also great in the morning when you need a little extra energy, but don’t want any (or any more) coffee.
