My brother just got transferred to Columbia, SC, and I’m kind of excited for him. He’s spent most of his working years working outdoors on overnight shifts, and these years were spent in Boston and Ohio, so the nights were very long and very cold in the winters.
I think that the overnight shift of working in South Carolina will be fantastic after all of those snowy years. That, plus the proximity to Myrtle beach golf courses, will make this new job seem like a vacation. Well, almost.
We just got back from our vacation – my family reunion in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. We had a great time, and the weather was perfect.
The last time we took a long vacation like this, we flew, but this year we drove. I can’t believe how much easier it made everything to have our own car! We could put the suitcases in the trunk, along with laundry baskets for the linens. We were able to take jaunts to local restaurants when we felt like it. It was great!
The only thing is that I managed to spill something icky in one of my suitcases (I have no idea). Looks like I’m going to have to get a new set of suitcases – maybe some Eagle Creek luggage? – in time for the next reunion. Luckily, that won’t be for another two years.
Wait. There’s nothing “luckily” about a two year wait for my next vacation! Boo!
It’s still dreary here this afternoon, so I’m thinking that along with the cruise I mentioned earlier, I’d like to be offered a free stay at hotel near a beach somewhere. I’m thinking something close to white sand beaches, with cabana service and drinks with those little umbrellas in them. Huge beach umbrellas are a must, since I burn easily. Also, private beaches and private pools preferred.
Sigh. You’d think it’s the middle of winter, with all of my travel daydreaming!

I took this picture a couple of years ago at our family reunion in Florida. We’d end up on the beach each night as the sun went down, and I got a few pictures of some amazing sunsets.
Mr. Martini and I are thinking of taking a trip sometime this year. We had thought of taking a March trip somewhere warm, but it looks like those plans are going to fall through. I’m not that disappointed, because it just means we’ll be able to afford a longer, nicer trip later in the year.
I still find myself daydreaming about beaches and palm trees, though. When my parents call from Florida and tell me about walks and bike rides and their need for sunscreen, it helps to look at these sunset pictures instead of all of the snow outside.
